VLAN Trunking: Cisco vs. Dell

Sunday, April 26th, 2009

In a recent battle at work I put a Cisco 2960G up against a Dell PowerConnect 5424. The PowerConnects aren’t bad… They’re cheap, gigabit, and Layer-2. Anyway, I quickly found out that unless you use GVRP, the Dell cannot learn what VLANs are out there. You have to specify allowed VLANS specifically on both ends [...]

F’ You Hard Drives!

Sunday, April 5th, 2009

So, I hate hard drives. I think everything about them is like a bad flashback to the 1980′s. Can someone write a not horrible, free KB tool that [...]

mod_security FTW

Friday, March 20th, 2009

The other night, I noticed that popsicle.easymac.org’s mailq was >22,000 message. I figured that was a problem. Turns out one of my users (who’s account I deleted without hesitation) was running a PHP proxy from his ~ directory. Looks like the stupid thing allowed some idiot to download some obnoxious looking perl scripts into the [...]

I’m not creative enough for this, and you can’t help me.
